Tilt table test

If you have had recurrent fainting spells, also known as syncope, the tilt table test can help determine how your body responds to changes in position. During the test, you lie on a table that can be moved to a nearly upright position while your symptoms, heart rate and blood pressure are continuously monitored.

The tilt table test is designed to induce syncope under controlled conditions. It is especially useful for diagnosing vasovagal syncope, which occurs when the body reacts strongly to triggers such as emotional stress or the sight of blood.

Instructions

If your test is scheduled in the morning, please do not eat or drink anything after midnight. If your test is scheduled in the afternoon, you may have a light breakfast that morning. Please bring all your medications with you. It’s a good idea to come with someone who can drive you home.
